"They're requesting my services more often these days," Beatrice mumbled while gazing blankly towards the sun. Her wings twitched at the chattering crowd. The people in the distance seemed no more than a backdrop to the small town she was currently visiting.
Children ran amok gazing and pointing at her in awe before running off. Here, she was a spectacle to be gawked at. Walking past the quaint shops she couldn't help but, compare it to home. Grigori were scarcely seen down below on the ground. Ruffling her wings for comfort she giggled as the younglings' eyes grew wide.
A smaller girl no older than six decided to step forward. In her hands, a small group of violets. Thrusting it forward with bright pink cheeks the girl gave a wide gap-toothed smile. "For you miss," "Thank you," giving a slight bow Beatrice accepted the gift; and extended her wings to provide shade and for show. In the light, they seemed to glow with a slight iridescent sheen. Expertly preened by her sister they were a sight to behold.
"Such a shame her sister's a demon," murmurs came from the adults. On instinct, those wings snapped back to her sides. Anger radiating off of every fiber at the blatant disrespect as indigo eyes blazed with unbridled fury. These women. It was people like this that kept her sister from being summoned alongside her.
"Speak such insulting words to my face, or not at all," came her harsh tone. Strands of blonde hair flowing in the light breeze she created. "Such blatant disrespect as I come before you. I've healed your brothers and younglings ailments. Your family, friends, and workers are in my debt, and yet you mouth at my sister?"
"Oh noble one, we meant no disrespect," came the leader of the small group. "We were just stating-"
"Of which you have no right to do," She took a breath before continuing on growling her next words, "Believe what you will. However, don't sully the Bloodgood name in my presence," With a flick of her wrist Beatrice ended the conversation there.
Picking up her dress she continued on her way past the shops that she had previously fancied. The small town that seemed petit and sweet at a glance had turned into another cage. Each wall and pole seemed to prevent her from gaining wind. "Miss," at the sound of another voice addressing her she took off. A quick long flap of her wings and a burst of wind brought her upwards and away. -------------
"You ran away again?"
"I ran away again," Beatrice moaned. From up on her perch Jenny could see her twin sister's figure laying dramatically upon her bed. "Was this before or after you defended my supposed honor?" "Jenny!" "Sorry, sorry, you’re right," fluttering down gently Jenny took in the sight of her beloved sister. Raven wings blocked out the light reaching towards Beatrice as she gave a light tap to her shoulder.
"Come here," she spoke softly inviting her sister to lay with her. With light caresses to her hair, it wasn't long before Beatrice began to relax under such ministrations. Curled in her sister's lap she felt at peace in the soft shade. "It doesn't matter what people think you know?" "Believe," Beatrice spat out bitterly, "They believe this Jenny," She turned away from Jenny's stomach to face her better. "I don't even know why,"
"And it doesn't matter," Jenny consoled her. "What matters is that you and I know the truth," pausing at her ministrations she continued, "plus, we're being chosen to be the next muses. That if any has reason to quell those rumors," "Or make them worse," Beatrice muttered bitterly. "Or make them worse," Jenny repeated almost as if in a trance. Looking upwards to hide her grief Jenny continued softly, "people wish to believe," "Believe what?" "Just believe,"
